Garage Conversions in Sheffield
Home offices, gyms, snugs and annexes built out of space that is currently storing boxes.
An integral or attached garage is often the cheapest floor area in the house to convert, because the walls and roof already exist. The work is about making it warm and dry: insulating the floor, dealing with damp in the walls, upgrading the roof insulation, and fitting proper windows, heating and electrics.
Making a garage warm and dry
Garage floors are usually lower than the house and have no insulation or damp-proof membrane. A new insulated build-up brings the floor level up to match, walls are dry-lined and insulated, and the roof is upgraded so the room holds heat like the rest of the house.
Infilling the garage door
The door opening is normally infilled in matched brick with a new window, on a foundation that matches the existing footing depth. Done well, the front of the house reads as though there was never a garage there.

FAQ
Garage Conversions — common questions
Do I need planning permission for a garage conversion?+
Most conversions of an existing attached garage fall under Permitted Development, though some newer estates have conditions removing that right. It is checked at survey.
Does a garage conversion need Building Regulations?+
Yes. Insulation, damp-proofing, ventilation, electrics and structural changes to the opening are all inspected, and a completion certificate is issued.
How long does a garage conversion take?+
Typically 3–5 weeks from start to handover for a single garage.
Will it be as warm as the rest of the house?+
Yes, when the floor, walls and roof are insulated correctly and the room is on the house heating system. That is the part of the job worth doing properly.
